Free Registration

Join one of our 2-hour classes to help you on your breastfeeding journey. Both classes are led by a Registered Nurse or an IBCLC Lactation Consultant. During these classes, you will learn how to: position your baby, get a good latch, manage your breastmilk supply, and assess if your baby is getting enough breast milk. Class content is designed for expecting parents and parents with a newborn child.

In-home Breastfeeding Support

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit provides in-home breastfeeding support to families who qualify for the Healthy Babies Healthy Children (HBHC) program. Support is provided by a Registered Nurse or an IBCLC* Lactation Consultant. Individuals can register while they are pregnant or after their baby is born. Call 519-258-2146 ext. 1350 to learn more about the HBHC program.

* IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Health professionals with this credential specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding and engage in regular professional development. 

Community Breastfeeding Support

Additional breastfeeding support is available in the community. For your reference, WECHU maintains the following lists of relevant local services.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit does not specifically endorse any individual service. We encourage all breastfeeding parents to include their primary healthcare provider in their infant feeding decisions. 

Midwifery Collective of Essex County

Expecting and Connecting Program: Weekly drop-in, virtual sessions led by a Registered Midwife and IBCLC* Lactation Consultant who cover a variety of topics, including breastfeeding. One-on-one virtual consults with the Registered Midwife/Lactation Consultant are also available, upon request. This program is open to all Ontario residents. Visit the website for more information.

Lactation Consultation (In-home, In-clinic, Virtual): One-on-one breastfeeding consultation is available until six weeks post partum. Service is provided by a Registered Midwife who is also an IBCLC* Lactation Consultant. Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) required. Call the clinic to register.


La Leche League Windsor - Peer Support

Group Meetings: Monthly in-person meetings. These meeting offer mother-to-mother breastfeeding support during pregnancy and after your baby is born. Visit website for a list of dates, times, and locations.

Phone Support: Call 811 to speak with a nurse about your breastfeeding concerns. May take up to 2 days to receive a phone call from Registered Nurse with advanced breastfeeding training. Interpretation available.
