Syphilis
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria (germs), called Treponema pallidum.
Floatation Tanks
Currently, there are no health regulations that can be enforced related to floatation tanks in Ontario. However, there are many important recommendations that owners/operators of floatation tanks should follow to ensure that health risks to their clients are minimized.
Personal Service Settings Sterilization Records
Download this template to use for collecting records related to maintaining sterilization.
Ontario Regulation 136/18 Personal Service Settings states that owners/operators of personal service settings who use sterilizers for re-usable critical equipment MUST keep sterilization records. All fields must be filled out completely.
Records must be kept onsite for at least 1 year, and in a secure location for 2 years afterwards.

Personal Service Settings Blood Exposure Records
Download this template to use for collecting records related to blood exposure in a Personal Service Setting.
Ontario Regulation 136/18 Personal Service Settings states that owners/operators of personal service settings must document ALL accidental blood and/or body fluid exposures that happen during a procedure for both clients AND operators. All fields must be filled out completely.

Manicures, Pedicures, and Nail Treatments
Infection prevention and control precautions must be followed to protect both personal service workers and clients. You do not have to see blood or bodily fluids on the instruments for an infection to occur.
Hair Salons and Barber Shops
Infection prevention and control precautions must be followed at hair salons and barber shops to protect the operators and clients from blood borne infections such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C. Hepatitis B vaccination is strongly recommended for personal service workers.
Facials, Make-up Application, and Waxing
Facials can be invasive procedures that involve a risk of exposure to blood or body fluids, especially when the procedure involves extractions.
Ear Piercing
Services that break the skin, such as ear piercing, tattooing and micropigmentation, are risk factors for blood-borne infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. Infection control precautions must be followed to protect both personal service workers and clients.

Body piercing is a risk factor for the transmission of blood-borne infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. Infection prevention and control precautions must be followed to protect both personal service workers and clients.
