The Long Term Care Homes Act 2007, Ontario Regulation 79/10, and Retirement Homes Act 2010, Ontario Regulation 166/11, require screening for tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by bacteria called mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria enter the body through air you breathe and causes an infection, usually in the lungs. Sometimes infections can happen in other parts of the body.
The Health Protection and Promotion Act 1990 (HPPA) outlines the requirements for physicians, practitioners, and institutions to report Tuberculosis (TB), including all positive TB skin tests, to the Medical Officer of Health.
