Outbreak Type
Symptoms
Vomiting, fever, and severe watery diarrhea.
Symptoms usually last 3 to 9 days.
Mode of Transmission
Fecal-oral route through direct and indirect contact.
May also be spread through aerosolized vomitus.
Incubation
24 to 72 hours.
Period of Communicability
Before symptoms appear, during acute stage of illness and up to approximately 8 days after symptoms resolve.
May be as long as 30 days in people who are Immunocompromised.
Diagnosis
Stool specimen.
Precautions
Contact Precautions - hand hygiene, gloves, gown
Droplet Precautions (if in contact with aerosolized vomitus) - protective eyewear, mask
