Why Food Literacy?
- Food skills are life skills. Food literacy allows children to critically think about all the ways food connects them to the land, their bodies, and the community.
- Food literacy allows for direct hands-on learning, building curiosity and connection to nature. It is an exciting and tangible way to talk about science, technology, math, and health.
- Food touches and impacts every aspect of our lives. Food literacy empowers people to make informed choices and create meaningful changes in their daily lives.
Food literacy is built when food systems and food are understood. Food leads to many other important issues and topics like environmental impact that can feature various challenges and opportunities. Learning about food and food systems build understanding around how food impacts our health, culture, economics, politics, and our planet (environmental issues).
