Healthy Menu Labelling

As of January 1, 2017, all food-service businesses with 20 or more locations in Ontario must post the number of calories for the food and drink items on their menus or on display. This is required by the Ontario Government as part of the Healthy Menu Choices Act, 2015.

Calorie information on menus will make it easier for you and your family to choose healthier foods while dining out.

Role of Public Health Inspectors

  • Visit businesses covered by the Healthy Menu Choices Act, 2015
  • Respond to complaints
  • Provide education to businesses
  • Enforce the law (e.g., issue warnings or fines)
