The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) will be distributing Potassium Iodide (KI) pills to Windsor residents living in the secondary zone which is 80 km from Enrico Fermi 2 Nuclear Generating Station. This initiative is to ensure our community is prepared in the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency.

News Release: Efforts Underway to Support Elementary and Secondary Students in Windsor-Essex County to Meet Immunization Requirements

In the fall of 2024, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) completed a review of all student immunization records (65,633) and sent out 7,076 notices to elementary students and 4,785 notices to secondary students.

Based on Environment and Climate Change Canada’s forecast, Dr. Mehdi Aloosh, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a Cold Warning for Monday, January 20 and Tuesday, January 21, 2025. A Cold Warning is issued when the temperature reaches -15°C (5°F) without the wind chill for a day.
