The Best Drinks for Summer

The warmer weather is here, which means it’s time to get outside and play! When you’re out having fun this summer, remember that water can be a great source of fun for activities like swimming, and it’s also the best summertime drink for staying hydrated!

Drinking water, and other hydrating beverages like milk and fortified soy beverages, can refresh us and give children and youth the energy to grow, learn and play. Eating certain foods like vegetables and fruits that contain high amounts of water is also great for hydration.

Water is great because you can get it right out of the tap, it is excellent for hydration and quenching thirst, and it does not need to stay refrigerated like other drinks so you can take it anywhere! This summer, be sure to keep water on hand during your summertime activities.

Skip the Energy Drinks

Energy drinks have ingredients like caffeine, vitamins and herbs. Energy drinks often have high amounts of caffeine. Having too much caffeine can cause trouble sleeping, moodiness, nervousness, fast heart rate, and headaches. Drinking moderate amounts is thought to be safe for adults, but energy drinks are not recommended for anyone under 18 years old, or pregnant or breastfeeding women.

When grabbing a drink this summer, grab water!
