Public health actions optimize the health and well-being of the people in our community. These actions protect our community from the risks of infectious disease outbreaks as well as other health hazards. In 2018, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit ran an awareness campaign regarding the unlikely event of a nuclear or radiological emergency. We worked with our municipal partners to distribute Potassium Iodide (KI) in our community as part of our nuclear emergency preparedness in the region.
Our community is in the midst of an opioid crisis. The WECHU, along with many other community agencies is working on a regional strategy to address opioid and substance misuse and the impact on our community and the health care system.
Our team of dedicated staff work diligently to keep our community safe from infectious and non-infectious disease threats. This report will highlight some of their work in the community.
