Tuesday, October 10th is World Mental Health Day - a good time to focus on student mental wellbeing!
Volume 4 Seeds to Grow Mental Health Newsletter
The Healthy School team has developed Volume 4 of the Seeds to Grow Mental Health Newsletter: Living with Our Emotions. This newsletter focuses on three skills (Self-care, Listen, and Respect) that help to protect and improve our mental health. There are two versions of the newsletter, one for educators and one for parents/caregivers. The newsletters contain activities that can be done to practice the skills at school and at home.
The first three newsletter volumes can be found here:
Mental Wellness Series
The Healthy Schools department has also created the Mental Wellness Series. The Mental Wellness Series is a four-week program aimed at teaching students about stress and anxiety, along with healthy ways to cope with their feelings. Over the course of four weeks, students will learn the basics of stress and anxiety, how it can impact their overall health, and how the body reacts during stressful situations. This program is targeted to students in grades 6 and can supplement the Mental Health Literacy Modules (MH 78) for students in grades 7 and 8. The French version of these resources are coming soon.
School Mental Health Resources for Educators
School Mental Health Ontario has developed Wayfinder, where educators teaching grades 1 to 6 can register to receive a digital framework that includes 10 months of lessons and activities to teach mental health literacy in the classroom.
